Parrot Head Club of Connecticut
PHCoCT

By Chip Dyer, President
Its hard to believe that we have re-built the Parrot Head Club of Connecticut (PHCoCT) from 2 members in March to 44 current members with an additional 8 keets! PHCoCT struggled to survive through the last couple of years, until this past March when I took over as Club President and my wife, Donna, as Secretary/Treasurer. We did this just as we are expecting our 1st child and were very apprehensive about the new responsibility the Club was going to add. But, the overwhelming welcome and response from old members, new members and other Parrot Head clubs has been very reassuring and given us the drive to turn PHCoCT into something great! Donna and I are extremely enthusiastic about what we can do as a club, and look forward to some great achievements this coming year.
Since March, PHCoCT has participated in:
Christmas In April (Rebuilding Together), an annual one-day event to repair and rehabilitate the homes of low-income, elderly and disabled people
Komen CT Race For The Cure held in New Britain to benefit breast cancer. 13,398 runners and walkers joined in this years race! PHCoCT had 20 people walking and raised $664 for the event.
Twentieth Annual Walk for Fidelco, the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation event where our club provided almost all of the people-power to run their new Fidelco Adventure Challenge
Several of our members joined the Western Mass Parrot Head Club in their Boat Cruise on the CT River to benefit the American Lung Association
Collected over 50 used bikes and delivered them to the Connecticut Bicycle Coalition, where the bikes are repaired or tuned-up by trained mechanics and distributed to youth and adults through community based organizations, including homeless shelters, transitional living facilities and youth agencies.
An exciting event that we have this October is manning Water Stations for the Hartford Marathon. This will be the first time PHCoCT has done this and we are looking forward to energizing runners with our Parrot Head garb, decorations, and of course, Buffett music!
We are still searching for a home for our club meetings and socials and have just registered our own domain phcoct.org and setup email accounts for the club to use.
So if you'd like to join us, see what we are about or help us out, be sure to stop by the web page or email/call us!
