GOVE2
Gove Scrivenor's music has been described as high energy folk blues, with his inventive slide work and boisterous vocals tempered all the while with singular work on the autoharp and beautiful ballads of his own writing, as well as a magical rapport with his audiences of all ages.

"To see a performer like Gove single handedly entice and cajole and entertain an audience is unique. A visit to a Gove concert is like going to the theatre. His presence and audience rapport command attention. His picking is superb, and he sings these gut level Memphis Blues and Delta type things with a voice that's both beautiful and funky. There should be creativity in music, and emotion and soul, and Gove's got 'em all." HARVEY MAGEE - HANK MAGAZINE

TODD SNIDER

Nashville, TN

**************
ToddSnider
Singer/songwriter Todd Snider first garnered attention for his timely alt-rock satire "Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues," a folk-rock song which struck a chord with younger people fed up with angry alternative rock bands, and at the same time, appealed to aging rockers who grew up with the folk revival of the 1960s.

Snider was born in Portland, OR. After moving to Memphis in the mid-1980s and establishing residency at a local club named the Daily Planet, he was discovered by singer/songwriter Keith Sykes, a member of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band.

Sykes began to work with Snider to advance his career, and after passing along demo tapes of Snider to Buffett, he was signed to the star's Margaritaville Records.

Snider's debut album, "Songs For The Daily Planet," was released in the fall of 1994; "Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues" was added to the album as an afterthought only after intense lobbying by a Canadian music critic, and ultimately became a minor hit.

On his latest CD, "Happy To Be Here," Snider and his band, The Nervous Wrecks continue blending bluegrass, blues, folk-rock and country-rock to forge their own distinctive sound.

SON
Ever since he can remember Johnny Rio has been a Parrothead! That is to say he has been a dedicated fan of the one and only Jimmy Buffett! Johnny was so infatuated with the music and persona of Jimmy Buffett that he became a musician. For years he toured and was told by so many fans how much he sounded and looked like Jimmy Buffett! This eventually led to an amazing transformation in Johnny's life. Since it was so natural and fulfilling, he started performing only the music of his idol which fills volumes and eventually added the authentic costuming and stage props. He then found a dedicated troupe of musicians who also were in awe of the legend! This formed SON OF A SAILOR featuring Johnny Rio... the most incredible re-creation and tribute to the "beach-master" himself....Jimmy Buffett!!

DAVE SOREFF & THE CORAL REEF REVUE

Deerfield Beach, FL

**************
soreff
No one should be having more fun than the band or the performer

That quote best sums up the way Dave Soreff feels about performing and music in general. Bringing with him, a sense of tradition for the singer/songwriter genre, as well as a sense of humor, Dave is ready to make his presence felt on the national music scene.

Originally from Newton, Massachusetts, Dave comes from a very musical family. His father Shelly was a professional pianist and singer, and his mother Doris was long a regular in the jazz clubs of New York during the 1940s and 50s. Encouraged from an early age to express himself musically, Dave studied violin for eight years, but was given a guitar for his 12th birthday. The rest, as they say, is just commentary.

With his fathers encouragement and assistance, Dave soon found himself playing on weekends with various dance bands and orchestras, turning professional at age 14. Always an instrumentalist, one night, his father turned to him on the ride to a gig, and told him, "youre the singer tonight. With nowhere to run to, Dave looked at his shoes, made it through the night intact and added vocalist to his resume.

Performing throughout high school and college, Dave also picked up skills on percussion, through his time with the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Minuteman Marching Band. Also marching with the world champion Garfield Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, Dave was fortunate enough to study under Thom Hannum, an internationally respected clinician, writer and percussion arranger.

After a brief detour through the cruise ship industry, where he served as cruise director on several luxury ships, Dave moved to South Florida in 1997, to pursue his music full time once again. Since then, he has performed in many different clubs and venues throughout South Florida, including an ongoing relationship with Sloppy Joes bars and restaurants. In his time in South Florida, Dave has been fortunate enough to open up for some of the top bands in the area, as well as some of the finest national bands. Sharing the stage with, among others, Great Train Robbery from Baltimore, Soul City from Boston and Radio Daze from Orlando.

Never one to stay in just one musical style, an evening with Dave will string together James Taylor, Bob Marley, Bob Seger, Carole King, Santana, Looking Glass, The Eagles and many more. As an outlet for his love of Caribbean rock and folk, Dave founded The Coral Reef Revue in early 1999.

Formed primarily as a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, it has become one of the most cohesive and musical bands in South Florida. With a repertoire that spans Jimmy Buffett to Little Feat and everything in-between, The Coral Reef Revue has performed all around Florida, including Margaritaville in Orlando. During the summer, they also made two very successful trips up to Atlantic City in New Jersey to perform at Trump Marina. The Coral Reef Revue is also pleased to be the official band for the South Florida Parrot Heads, in particular, the Barefoot Children of Ft Lauderdale.

Currently, Dave is in the studio, with The Coral Reef Revue, working on his first solo CD. Tentatively titled No Worries, it will include some of Daves best original material, as well as a favorite cover or two.

ERIC STONE

Nashville, TN

**************
stonecd
Eric Stone grew up on the beaches of Texas. At 21 he followed a dream that took him to the beaches of Florida (The Space Coast). He performed there for several years until moving to the beaches of Hawaii.

It was there that he met Jimmy Buffett, who was performing at a benefit for the victims of Hurricane Iniki. Eric asked Jimmy what was the most important step he should take to further his own music carreer. Jimmy said, "Just play the kind of music you really love, because if you love it, it will show and soon others will love it too." Eric took those words to heart and continued writing and performing the music he loved. His original music can be described as Caribbean Country (heavily influenced by Buffett).

If you have a special event, big or small, that needs Parrothead music, i.e. Boatshows, Yacht Launchings, Marina Parties Grand Openings or any event that needs Buffett Music, then you need Eric Stone. What you'll get is simply put, the next best thing to Jimmy himself. Eric performs 40 Buffett songs mixed in with a few originals and other covers that Parrotheads want to hear.

"We first discovered Eric Stone singing for his supper at the Atlantic City, Chicago and Miami Boat Shows. After a particularly rough evening at a local bar, we knew he belonged with Lats&Atts. This guy is what Jimmy Buffett was as a youngster. His songs have the true feeling of a cruiser entertaining his guests."

KEITH SYKES

SYKES CD
Nearly 30 years ago, a young Keith Sykes walked into a pawn shop on Memphis famed Beale Street and paid $20 for his first guitar. Since then, Sykes has made a name for himself as a guitarist/songwriter/producer extraordinaire, contributing to projects from artists as diverse as Jimmy Buffett, John Prine, Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff Walker, Todd Snider, Rosanne Cash and Patty Loveless.

In that span, Keith has been a defining force in a business that for him continues to be first and foremost a passion. The fact that hes able to make a living doing what he loves is just a bonus. Bouncing around over the years from Memphis to New York City and Austin to Key West, Keith finally returned to Memphis to make a home and make a difference in the wonderful world that is Memphis music.

Now, Sykes focuses those considerable skills on his ninth solo album, "Advanced Medication For The Blues," his inaugural self-produced rock record and the debut release for Memphis-based Syren Records.

"Advanced Medication For The Blues" rocks full tilt from the opening track and never lets up. Highlights include I Know An Angel, a loving testament to youthful innocence he wrote for his granddaughter, Kelsey; The Whole 9 Yards, a modern-day outlaw tale; and One World, which takes a sitar-like riff and infuses it with a swamp groove worthy of Dire Straits.

LARRY JOE TAYLOR

Stephenville, TX

**************
LJT
Larry Joe Taylor is a Jerry Jeff Walker contemporary, but he mixes a little reggae and dixieland into his sound, which has been compared to Jimmy Buffett, at least in part for its' celebration of beaches and easygoing lifestyles.

"It's the only place where you can tailgate and watch the surf," said Taylor of Texas' public beaches, where one can drive a pickup for miles. He used to record straight country-influenced stuff, but "then I wrote a couple of Texas beach songs and people just went nuts!"

The self-proclaimed ParrotHead first recorded beach music with his 1993 release, "Coastal & Western" and last year's "First Row, Third Coast" kept up the trend.

"The difference in Texas beach music, to me, is there's not as much Caribbean or Beach Boys influence as there is more of a Spanish-Mexican influence," explains Taylor.

Singer-songwriter Tom Carey does over 200 dates a year, playing his engaging, lyrical acoustic rock songs for thousands of folks across the Midwest.

Tom has done dozens of radio appearances and he and his band have opened concerts for The Charlie Daniels Band, America, .38 Special, The Guess Who, The Spinners, Koko Taylor and more.

Sponsored by Corona Extra since 1992, the Tom Carey Band makes regular appearances in Key West, Florida, at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, Sloppy Joe's & the Hog's Breath Saloon.

Tom is backed by Chuck Kawal's imaginative and stylish guitar playing and the supple rhythm section of bassist John Forrest and drummer Greg Marsh. They have wowed crowds everywhere with their soaring harmonies, polished arrangements and powerful original songs.

Carey is also an author, whose humorous books (currently available at Amazon.com) have sold over 500,000 copies worldwide and have been excerpted in Playboy magazine.

Musically, he draws inspiration from artists like John Hiatt, Van Morrison, Lyle Lovett, John Prine and, of course, Jimmy Buffett.

"I'm a writer first and foremost," says Tom. "I love the words. I'm not much interested in way out, Steely Dan type chord inversions. I love a great arrangement and a great solo as long as they're there to help to tell a great story. And it doesn't hurt if you can dance to it!"

Tom and his band have built a huge fan base in the Midwest. In just one year they have sold over 3000 copies of their first CD, "The Last Resort."

Mark Guarino, rock critic for the Chicago Daily Herald, says this about Carey, "It's a rare surprise when a bright songwriter like Tom Carey is right here under our noses. (His) imagery and drama could stand alongside (John) Hiatt's best work."

TROPICAL DENNY

Austin, TX

**************
denny
Tropical Denny is one of those guys with an affection for the water who really seem to enjoy life. He has no qualms about admitting that in many ways his lifestyle is patterned after that of Jimmy Buffett - he lives on a houseboat in Austin, Texas and sings songs about the tropics, sailing, and drinking tequila.

His music is somewhat like that Buffett, or perhaps Steve Goodman. Folk-based acoustic guitar strumming and picking, with a little caribbean influence and story-telling lyrics. Most of the songs on the CD "Music to Beach About" are very positive and fun-loving; some a little romantic like the ballad "Sailing at Midnight".

Some of his tunes, such as "See You Soon" get into a rhythmic groove, and if you close your eyes and listen to Denny sing 'city life ain't no life for a tropical man' you can almost slip away to a white sand beach, if only for 3 or 4 minutes. All of the songs are simply arranged, and with an acoustic rhythm guitar and an occasional acoustic lead lending the perfect self-accompaniment to the stories. I'd love to hear some of them done by a reggae band though. It just seems right.

On 'Tequila Talking' Denny gives one of his more Buffett-like performances, as he talks about how "it was the tequila talking...Jose Cuervo you took a bite out of me". Some nice lead breaks between lines throughout the song. These are the kind of songs that you want to listen to when you're in a good mood; relaxed but ready for a fun time. No wonder Denny is so popular around the waterholes in Texas!

Influenced by the words and music of the likes of John Prine, Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley and the legendary Guy Clark, Tropical Denny is a blend of folk, blues and reggae that's right off the beach sunsets of the Texas Gulf......It's a guitar on the beach at night with the surf and sea as the back-up band.

VERTICAL SMILE

PelvicAss
Many an unfortunate soul who has wandered into a party, bar, or house of ill repute where we are playing has asked: "Who is Vertical Smile?" (Well, actually, they seldom use those words). Vertical Smile is Jerry McCollum, Jeff Pike, and Charles McDonald, a trio of guitarists, singers, keyboardists, percussionists, MIDI programmers, and general troublemakers that combine musicianship with a strong sense of fun and a huge repertoire of classic rock, oldies, ballads and originals.

Jeff, Jerry, and Chaz ("Dr. Rhythm") crawl into their caves like hermits and emerge with their own MIDI accompaniment, played, sequenced and recorded in their home studios. Vertical Smile's forte (see, a musical term) is fun, and their semi-brilliant song parodies and self-indulgent stage antics have made them a must-see act for a nationwide group of derelicts.

And, despite popular demand, Jeff and Jerry announce the debut Vertical Smile CD--"Pelvic Associates." The musical companion to "The Jeff and Jerry Show" found on the Vertical Smile Web Page (http://vrtclsmile.home.mindspring.com) is a CD of "parody comedy rock" containing non-famous parodies of Jimmy Buffett, The Beatles, Billy Joel and Fleetwood Mac songs. It also showcases Greg "Fingers" Taylor (the longtime harmonica player for Jimmy Buffett) on two cuts.

"Its country music from another country."

Thats how Jerry Jeff Walker describes the music on "Cowboy Boots & Bathin Suits," the Texas singer-songwriters 28th album, and the tenth release on his own independent label, Tried & True Music.

For this album, Walker (who has long championed remote recording locations, from the Texas Hill Country hamlet of Luckenbach to the stage of The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia) transported his entire band down to Ambergris Caye, an island off the coast of the Central American country of Belize.

Since first visiting Belize five years ago, Walker and his wife/manager Susan have talked about setting a recording project in that country. The idea was to translate some of that beautiful countrys natural splendor and tropical langour into a fun, drive-with-the-top-down Jerry Jeff album.

Jerry Jeff and the band returned to Austin with a grab bag of songs that includes new Jerry Jeff originals ("Come Away To Belize With Me" and the title track), and a host of intriguing covers, including a revelatory re-working of the traditional "Sloop John B.," a country-rock rave-up of Robert Parkers New Orleans dance classic, "Barefootin," a medley of songs by reclusive songwriter Fred Neil, and a tune by Jerry Jeffs longtime songwriting compaero, Guy Clark. Resident San Pedro songwriter Dennis Wolfe also contributed a tongue-in-cheek look at expatriates, "Just Another Gringo In Belize."

BILL WHARTON
"The Sauce Boss"

What does Jimmy Buffett, The Food Network, Dan Ackroyd and Jonathan Demme have in common? What is the nexus of these disparate synchronicities? Has the cosmos gone completely bonkers? Yes it has. The connecting point of these people is the Sauce Boss--Bill Wharton.

Jimmy Buffett writes in his song "I Will Play for Gumbo"--"The Sauce Boss does his cooking onstage, stirring and a singing for his nightly wage, sweatin and a frettin from his head to his toe, playing and swaying with the gumbo, praying and buffeting with the gumbo." The Food Network's "Extreme Cuisine" series is running a feature on the Sauce Boss, Dan Ackroyd featured "All Round Man" from Bill Wharton's "Recipes" CD (1999 Burning Disk Records) as Blues Breaker of the week 11/23/99. Academy-award-winning director Jonathan Demme featured Wharton's anthem "Let the Big Dog Eat" in his film "Something Wild".

Bill "The Sauce Boss" Wharton is no longer a best kept secret. After serving up his own fiercely original blues and gumbo together for over 10 years, the word is out. During his musical performances/cooking demonstrations, he and his band the Ingredients have cooked and served-up over 70,000 bowls of gumbo, all served at no cost--that's a lot of free food. No wonder everyone is talking about the Sauce Boss and visiting his very popular, award-winning website at SAUCEBOSS.COM

Wharton's "Recipes" Enhanced CD is the multimedia experience of a lifetime . . .(get this!) It's Bill Wharton's new CD-Rom cookbook/blues album, with a culinary travelogue and gumbo video, interfaced with the Sauce Boss website and all on a single disc. No wonder the shoppers on Amazon.com have held "Recipes" in the top of their Blues Emerging Artists charts since July 1999.

So why has the Sauce Boss embarked in this crazy gumbo crusade? What's the message in his madness? It's a totally inclusive message for the new millenium: "Let's share our music and have a meal together, and watch the social barriers melt away." It's world beat from way down South. This is the Sauce Boss.

JAMES WHITE
"Sunny Jim"

Lyford, TX

**************
SUNNY JIM SHIRT
From ballads to fun loving, upbeat soca tunes, James White's original songs tell the story of life on a Caribbean Island. The experience continues to be a wellspring of inspiration, and in deference to the Caribbean influences around him, James has taught himself to play the steel drum, which he uses to augment his acoustic guitar and MIDI "Invisible Band."

In addition to his own original songs, Sunny Jim's repertoire includes traditional Caribbean tunes, and the musical influence of such artists as Bob Marley, Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, Paul Simon and Jerry Jeff Walker.

To quote his "Life in the Laid Back Lane," Sunny Jim is "living what he loves and loving what he lives," and he has his dad Floyd to thank for that. When James was a 9-year old in San Antonio, Texas, Floyd brought home a cheap guitar. The youngster started fooling around with it, and the rest is history. Today, his father is one of Sunny Jim's biggest fans, and he no longer asks the question, "When are you going to get a real job?"

JESSE WINCHESTER

Memphis, TN

**************
MemphisJesse
Jesse Winchester was the world's most prominent Vietnam War draft evader, though his reknown came from a body of rye, closely observed songs. After growing up in Memphis, Winchester received his draft notice in 1967 and moved to Montreal rather than serve in the military.

In 1969, he met Robbie Robertson of The Band, who helped launch his recording career. In the same way that James Taylor's history of mental instability and drug abuse served as a subtext for his early music, Winchester's exile lent real-life poignancy to his music.

Despite critical acclaim, his inability to tour the U.S. prevented him from taking his place among the major singer/songwriters of the early 70s, but he made a series of five impressive albums before President Jimmy Carter instituted an amnesty that finally allowed him to play in his homeland.

A number of Winchester's songs were recorded by Jimmy Buffett, including "Biloxi" and "Defying Gravity."

Listen closely to Jesse Winchester....truly the finest singer/songwriter you've never heard!!!
