MANGO MANGO

Phoenix, AZ

**************
Mango Banner
Mango Mango specializes in the infectious sounds of the Caribbean. We are dedicated to entetaining audiences with a sound that will get feet tapping, fingers snapping and bodies dancing. Mango Mango is unique in its intent and music blend. We recognize the popularity of all styles of Caribbean music including calypso, reggae and soca music made popular by music legends such as Harry Belafonte, Bob Marley and Jimmy Buffett. Their music has wide appeal, pleasing all age groups.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT US:

"We booked Mango Mango to play in the center of our casino. We didn't want to stick this music in a lounge somewhere where few people wander in to hear it. We wanted it to fill the central casino with an upbeat spirit that tells customers, 'Hey relax! You're on vacation!'"
CULLEN WEST, ENTERTAINMENT AND PUBLICITY DIRECTOR, FLAMINGO HILTON, LAUGHLIN, NV

"Fans appreciate Mango Mango's renditions of Jimmy Buffett tunes and the entertainment industry seems to as well. The band has been invited the past few years to warm up the stage for the man who put Margaritaville on the map when he visits Arizona."
THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC

"Together, they play tight arrangements of some of the best party and dance music available this side of Kingston."

THE MANGOS

Long Island, NY

**************
TheMangos
The Mangos were formed in 1991 when Jerry Pizzuto found an advertisement in the local newspaper. "Singer/guitar player seeks singer/guitar player". He had been involved with a few different groups up to that time, but really wanted to play in a duo. Upon calling the phone number listed in the ad, he met Mike "Juice" Dellagatti. Mike's dad invented the Big Mac. The two began playing together.

How did they arrive at their name? "Mike was in Florida and I was talking to him on the phone. He was eating a mango at the time. 'How about The Mangos?' he said. 'That's wild' I said."

After a few months they decided to add some light percussion. Jerry called his conga playing friend Ray Jensen. Brian Johnson responded to a classified advertisement and joined a few weeks later. Jerry describes him as
"percussionist/kitchen sink". Bass player friend Don Schweitzer was then added. They weren't a duo anymore.

Shortly thereafter, Randy Knudsen, a conga and drum player replaced Ray. Over the next four years a few additional players came and went. In 1993 Mike got married and moved to Florida to work for the family business.

On a cool evening in June, 1995 Richie Saccente walked into the Tiperary House of Commack. He was booked as the solo entertainment act for the night. He had no idea what was in store. Also arriving were "The Wild Mangos", a tropical-style rock band. The club owner had mistakenly booked two acts for the same night.

When the mistake was discovered most of the Mangos left, except one, Jerry Pizzuto. "Can I jam with you?" Richie agreed.

Richie and Jerry played as a duo off and on for the next seven months until Richie was extended an invitation to join the band. "I had been playing country music for a few years, so doing Bob Marley was an adjustment. What really hit me was the originals. I never really cared for local bands' originals - but these were good!"

A short time later bass player Rob Muma was stolen from Jerry's brothers band and replaced Don.

Today "The Mangos", as they are now known, play in gigs that range from Claudio's of Greenport to Palmer Vineyards in Riverhead to Neptune Beach Club in the Hamptons.

PETER MAYER

Nashville, TN

**************
FinalPeter
Guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, Peter Mayer has been quietly and steadily building a fervent following across the country, stepping outside his role as one of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefers to front his own band, The Peter Mayer Group. Melding a unique and eclectic writing style, a distinctive voice, and virtuoso musicianship, Peter and his band create compelling and accessible music that is electrifying in live performance.

Peter Mayer is in good company on his newest release "Romeo's Garage." In addition to his regular bandmates, the highly respected songwriter Mac McAnally co-writes and performs, as does Grammy winning percussionist Ralph MacDonald, talented keyboard player, songwriter and producer, Michael Utley, and several highly regarded Nashville players.

"Romeo's Garage" is a collection of 13 original tunes. This record showcases Mayer's versatility and virtuosity as a songwriter, guitarist and vocalist with an appealing range of themes for listeners. MAC McANALLY

Muscle Shoals, AL

**************
MAC
Mac McAnally has what many recording artists can only dream of -- complete artistic freedom. Already the envy of his peers as a hit songwriter, much sought-after session player and top-tier producer, McAnally was given carte blanche to make his latest album.

The result, "Word of Mouth," is a travelogue of musical styles ranging from the swing of "Pop Top Hop" to the down-home country of "Out the Window," from the rowdy rocker "The Ass and the Hole" to the lush R&B ballad "Better Than the Good Ole Days," from the soaring pop of "Just One Forever" to the gritty soul of "Things to Do Today."

During sessions for the disc, McAnally alternated between the Muscle Shoals home studio and his home in Nashville, where he rejuvenated himself with family time (he is married, with three children). He often composes on the long drive between the two locales.

"Half my songs are written without an instrument, just in my head," he says. "I'm as undisciplined as you can get. I pretend like I'm never gonna write another song. Then one will fester to the point where it throws me down and disrupts my schedule. I never question it when that happens, I just write it."

Clearly, McAnally is just pretending when he lets slip the notion to quit writing. "A lot of people look at the way the music business is today and say, 'Why do it?,' he informs. "I never say that. You do it because you can do it, because you have the opportunity. You have an obligation. You are given this talent and doing something with it is a privilege very few people have. For me to be able to pursue this, with this much freedom, is a wonderful thing. I wouldn't trade places with anyone."

MICHAEL McCLOUD

Key West, FL

**************
GretasTits
The first time I saw Michael McCloud was at Turtle Kraals, a bar & grill in Key West. I was drunk and having fun, I didn't really think twice about shelling out the twenty bucks he wanted for his CD. Since then I have listened to it more times that anyone should play one CD. I would buy his other albums, but my standards prohibit me from purchasing cassettes. The fact that I don't own a tape player also contributes. He does have four other albums on cassette.

He is awesome live though. He is what Jimmy once was, a drunk bar singer making a buck off of the even drunker tourists in Key West. If you go there, you can most likely find him playing at The Bull, caddy corner to Sloppy Joe's. Michael McCloud wrote and sings the anthem of the Conch Republic, the name that was taken by the lower Keys in the mid-eighties when they seceded and asked for U.S. foreign aid after the DEA took a bite out of tourism with their customs roadblocks and searches on U.S.1.

DEBORAH McCOLL

Los Angeles, CA

**************
McColl
One night standing on the red clay shore of a lake in Georgia, Deborah McColl sang 'Amazing Grace' and sent chills up the spines of a lucky few.

One night at a sports arena in Atlanta, Deborah McColl sat alone at the piano, touching the hearts in the darkness and bringing a hush to a crowd of 30,000.

Night after night, at colleges and concert halls on the East Coast, in various incarnations, as folk troubadour, rock singer, songwriter, and backup vocalist, Deborah McColl has made that same deep nerve connection with her audiences: During the solo sequence [of the Jimmy Buffett concert] backup singer Deborah McColl rejoined Buffett for some duets, and she stole the show with her clear-voiced impassioned singing.

Now she's back with the release of her debut solo CD, "Naked In The Garden". A collection of pure songs, a shimmer of crystalline voice, the golden texture of warm guitars; Joni Mitchell color brushed with hues of Emmylou. The genre of Deborah McColl's songwriting is hard to pin down; some are country/folk songs like "Little Pearl" and "Over the Line" where the red clay of her Georgia youth shows through, while others are more poetic, moody, and sometimes rock-influenced like the title song "Naked in the Garden"and "If I Wanna Get Out". Still others are reminiscent of old English ballads ("The Poet") or of a pure folk tradition.

MIDNIGHT WATCH

Clifton, NJ

**************
midnight watch
Guitarist Bob Hegney and singer/harp player Andrew Zinis started out as two friends playing songs together that brought them back to all those warm places they had visited in their past. It wasn't long before the infectious music brought around bass player, and Bob's twin brother, Bill to join in the fun. Not wanting to stop at a simple three piece, rhythm guitarists Rick Calvelli and Jay Ackerman soon joined the band. The last piece of the puzzle finally came together when our drummer, the wild man Steve (nickname Animal), got on board and gave us that reggae, country, rock, calypso sound they needed.

Bob and Andrew's goal from the beginning was to play songs that were fun, close to the heart, and a breath of fresh air from the norm. Their set lists include approximately 15 Jimmy Buffett songs, none of which can be found on "Songs You Know By Heart." They also include songs by artists such as Peter Tosh, Jerry Jeff Walker, Paul Simon, James Taylor, The Doobie Brothers, Neil Young, Three Dog Night, The Allman Brothers, Bob Marley, Savoy Brown, and Elton John, just to name a few, again stressing songs from these artists that you probably don't know by heart unless you're truly a fan of their music.

When Midnight Watch first started playing out in the Tri-State area, they weren't sure how their "less popular is better" concept would be received, but it only took a couple shows to find out that if you pick good songs and play them with feeling, people will respond. One of the greatest compliments theyreceive is when people come up and say, "YOU'RE REFRESHING."

If you ever get the opportunity to see this dynamic group in person, we think you'll agree!!

JAMES MILLER
"Barefoot James" & The Crab Legs

Nashville, TN

**************
Acoustic Guitar Player
Is he the second coming of Jimmy Buffett? Doubtful!! Is he cut from the same cloth? Absolutely!!

I recently caught up with Barefoot James Miller lounging outside his camper on the edge of a mangrove field near Bradenton, FL. Several adult beverages enticed James to tell me his story:

Born in Georgia, this 30-something troubadour calls Nashville home.and he calls Bradenton home..and he calls his beloved camper home. Actually, James home address is the same as his Tennessee license plate!

Inspired by the music of Jimmy Buffett, John Prine, Scamp Walker & The Eagles, James learned the guitar at an early age, played in the requisite number of high school bands and, upon graduation, set out to take music seriously and make his mark. He took a job in that marvelous mecca, Nashvilles legendary Music Row and waited for stardom to arrive.

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum, though. One after another, James watched as talented musicians got turned away on a daily basis and oops, reality set in.Nobody was banging on James door either. Like so many others, a discouraged James Miller pretty much quit playing music and set about the mundane task of making a living.

Fast forward to the late 90sa party, a band by the name of St. Somewhere, a slightly older, but wiser James Miller and maybe an adult beverage or two. BAM !!! Island fever strikes; Miller jumps on stage and plays a few sets with Matt, Quincy & the guys. Viola!! Barefoot James is born and theres a camper in his future!!!

Today, when the notion hits, Miller hops in the camper & heads to the coast, picking up gigs here & there. He is currently on hiatus, working on his debut CD, due for release in summer, 2001 and scheduled to contain a nice mix of original tunes and favorite covers.

In the meantime, keep checking the ENTERTAINMENT CALENDAR to catch Barefoot James at a gig near you. As he says, Ive got a mediocre voice and I know enough guitar to get me by.but I guarantee well both have a good time!

I believe him !!

DANNY MORGAN

Sanibel, FL

**************
DannyMorgan
The comparisons to Jimmy Buffett are inevitable and he does not mind a bit. But Danny Morgan has carved a permanent niche for himself on Florida's Sanibel and Captiva Islands that is uniquely his own.

Songwriter, singer, guitarist, bandleader, arranger, producer, teacher, and graphic artist, Danny Morgan is his own man and has his own style of music and art.

He recalls his first performance on Captiva in 1975, when he took the stage dressed in a sport coat and armed with a repertoire of Bob Dylan songs. He immediately found that neither his attire nor his song selections were appropriate. The lively crowd called for Jimmy Buffett songs, and Danny was introduced to a new style of music and entertaining, to say nothing of audience participation a la Buffett's beloved, fanatic parrotheads.

So, he learned the Buffett songbook out of necessity. But he didn't stop there. Danny began to write his own songs about his personal experiences on Sanibel and Captiva.

Forget comparisons to Jimmy Buffett. This is the home of a creative soul who answered his calling. He invites us all to share his vision of colorful, vibrant, beautiful living.

Danny Morgan possesses enormous vitality. He is a creative original, a hard working man of honesty and integrity, and one of a kind. His life is a work of art.

JIM MORRIS

Port Charlotte, FL

**************
JimMorris
Jim Morris is an articulate singer/songwriter with a devotion to storytelling. Whether it is a thoughtful ballad about doomed love or an anthem to a night of drunken revelry, the listener can always count on well-crafted songs with carefully drawn characters, clever lyrics, and satirical charm.

Although Jims musical style is admittedly reminiscent of Jimmy Buffett and Jerry Jeff Walker, he has a knack for defying categorization. He mixes a whimsical island sound with a splash of Texas to produce a sound that is uniquely Gulf and Western.

Jim directs his efforts to expanding his fan base and touring with the Big Bamboo Band, while continuing to record a CD per year. He still makes time to fish and will always be on the lookout for song material. "I dont have much to show for my years except some great experiences, and thats what I write about the characters Ive met and the places Ive been. The thing that is both satisfying and alarming is that most of it is true."

MR. MYERS BAND

Chicago, IL

************
LastMyers
Mr. Myers blends the tropical sounds of calypso and ska, the rhythms of reggae and a little rock-n-roll to create their own special style of music - Carribean Rock. What truly gives this band's music a distinctive sound is band leader Todd Donnelly's use of authentic steel drums, a virtual rarity in bands from the midwest. Mr. Myers began producing its' unique blend of music in 1981 and has since become a favorite dance band in the clubs, at summer festivals, and on college campuses throughout the midwest.

On the coldest of winter nights, the sound of steel drums can be heard coming from a club. Inside, the people forget the weather and imagine that they are in the tropics as they dance to the music of Mr. Myers. That's what the Tropic of Punch is all about. The Tropic of Punch is a meeting place on the internet for fans of Mr. Myers (some of whom call themselves puncheads). Listen to a Mark Mulligan song and let your mind wander way down south to a land of sandy beaches, blue water, and golden sun. Mark combines the influences of Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, Jim Croce, a bit of country, and blends it all together with south of the border themes for a unique "tropical folk" sound.

After several years of playing all over Arizona, Mark moved to Mexico in 1993, and since then his experiences living on the Sea of Cortez have contributed greatly to his songwriting. His most recent CDs "Mexico" and "Going Coastal" reflect many of those experiences. Mark is also releasing a remastered version of a prior CD, "Son of the Sunshine", which could aptly be described as "tropicountry"!

Mark is currently based out of Puerto Penasco, Sonora (also known as Rocky Point), and performs there as well as Phoenix, Tucson, San Diego, South Padre Island, TX and Baja California. He is available for private parties, corporate events, etc., where, in addition to his own music, he plays from a list of over 400 of your favorite cover songs!

I'm lucky enough to spend a lot of time writing and playing music for a growing number of friends. During the summers, I duo with Jim Hoehn, a good friend and one of my favorite songwriters. We play as many originals as we can, as many Jimmy Buffett tunes as we have to, and a bunch of others including John Prine, Steve Goodman, Jerry Jeff, etc. I always play at least one song by my friend and mentor the late-great Harry Chapin. At quieter times of the year, I hang out in coffeehouses or listening rooms playing original music with Jim, by myself or with other friends.

To date, I've made five recordings, though my first, "Welcome to My Living Room," sold out long ago. Some songs from that maiden project are included on my CD "Come As You Are." My latest CD, "Grown Up Kid" was released in the early summer of 1998. Thanks for stopping by, may the road rise to meet you.

Murrell
Every so often an entertainer comes along that can take an audience by the hand and lead them on a musical journey spanning an entire lifetime. Together they explore the joys, sorrows, excitement, and wonders of this world, all in the course of an evening. Gene Murrell is one of these performers.

Growing up in Central Florida, Gene began his musical journey at the age of 6. After hearing "JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR", he memorized and began performing one man shows for anyone who would listen (usually just himself). At 14 he was given a guitar and quickly formed a band. After several attempts with different high school rock bands, Gene traded his electric guitar for an acoustic and started developing an acoustic, folk-rock sound. Drawing his influences from the likes of America, Crosby, Stills,& Nash, Dan Folgelberg, & Jimmy Buffett, and even KISS. Gene began crafting his own style by mixing lyrics that create mental images with melodies that stay with you after the last note has faded.

A GENE MURRELL show can be summed up in his motto "LIFE IS GOOD - DEAL WITH IT!" So come and hang out with Gene for a while, have a drink, maybe a little dinner and a lot of good music. It is sure leave you with a feeling you won't soon forget.

I was around to see three guys increase to four, then five, and suddenly there were seven. Each time this happened there was a seamless segue into the next incarnation of a band whose total musical talents far outnumber the sum of its parts. This is not just a group of excellent musicians, it is also a bunch of really nice guys. I consider it an honor to call each member of PHINS my friend. If the driving drummers, fantastic fiddling, hellacious harp, and gregarious guitars of PHINS dont get your toes to tappin' and your butt to wigglin', you need to check your pulse because you just might be dead. I will always be the #1 Phan of PHINS."

JOE RATHBURN
"Coconut Joe"

San Diego, CA

**************
Rathburn
During singer / songwriter / guitarist Joe Rathburn's career, he has headlined his own shows and opened for artists as diverse as Chuck Berry, Kiss, The Guess Who, Bonnie Raitt, Ray Charles, Dave Van Ronk, Susan Werner & Ellis Paul and, of course, Jimmy Buffett. His 1997 CD release "Little Suns" was critically acclaimed and nominated for a San Diego Music Award that year in
the Best Adult Alternative category.

He became enamored with the music of the Caribbean after hearing Bob Marley's "Exodus" album back in his former home state of Michigan. After moving to San Diego in 1979, he continued his romance with reggae and calypso. With stints with his own "Beach Club Band," as well as the "Banana Republicans," and most recently "Koko Loco" (through whom he became acquainted with the San Diego Parrot Head Club) his love for TROPROCK has matured and flourished.

In 1999 he formed Joe Rathburn's "ISLAND," a great band of seasoned pros that allows Joe the flexibility to perform his favorite cover repertoire, as well as his own wonderfully eclectic, and uplifting compositions, while pursuing a goal of recording, concerts, and touring. Joe (AKA Coconut Joe) along with "ISLAND" also performs for parties, clubs, and corporate functions.

Buffett, Belafonte, Marley, and Rathburn tunes are mainstays of "ISLAND's" repertoire. Their playlist also includes not only tunes from the Caribbean, but American and British folk and rock & roll songs which either sounded tropical to begin with, or have been arranged that way by Rathburn.

The band has become one of the favorites of the San Diego PHC, performing at their 2000 anniversary blowout and have been asked back for 2001. They also rocked the house at the Coors Amphitheater before thousands of Parrot Heads at one of Buffett's "Beach House on the Moon" shows. Rathburn, as "Coconut Joe," has been the summertime musical goodwill ambassador for the San Diego Hilton Beach & Tennis Resort for the past 5 years.

With support from his musical partner, Joel Hiller, Reno offers a calypso confession to debauchery with songs like "Sheila Tequila From Cinco De Mayo" and "Girl Watcher." As only a true road musician can, John chronicles the experiences of playing the only dive, er, .... scratch that, "oceanside bar" without windows, in "You Can't Stay Here" and discovering a self-proclaimed "Buffett fraternity" in Ferrum, VA with "WEDO". John's personal style and sense of humor is evident in all of his original music.

THE RUM PUNCH BANDITS

Rock Hill, SC

**************
Island Boat
The Rum Punch Bandits are a trio from the Carolina Piedmont area that specialize in straightforward, simplistic Gulf & Western music. To witness their show is to take a step back in time to an era when simple six string music was the rage.

Kevin Loop, 1/2 of the duo Worthington Station, fronts the band, plays lead acoustic guitar and sings lead vocal. A jeweler by trade, this Charlotte, NC resident has been strumming his six string for as long as he can remember and he also plays a killer harp.

DeWayne Allen plays electric bass for the band and hails from Chester, SC. His funky bass lines keep the Bandits afloat with a rhythm reminiscent of the better Reggae artists around.

Bob Robinson of Rock Hill, SC lays down the back beat with congas, bongos and, basically, anything that makes a noise is subject to being played. Relatively new to the music scene, BobRob has grown exponentially in his skin slapping and has played with Hugo Duarte and Chris Clifton along the way.

The songs you'll hear at a Bandits show range from Buffett and Bob Marley, to Sunny Jim and Hugo Duarte, as well as Van Morrison and James Taylor. Oh yeah, they also have several originals they'll throw atcha, too!!
